New development is burgeoning in the South End of Downtown Memphis. Formerly an industrial and warehousing district, the area is quickly evolving into a mixed-use neighborhood with a booming residential market. Within the last year, over $ 40 million in new development was announced in South End. Estimates predict that this area will be home to more than 5,000 new residents within the next few years. Rapid growth has spurred the need for a South End Master Plan, which was recently created by LRK Architects. The Master Plan outlines appropriate future Master Plan area.

Amenities
South End’s close proximity to the Mississippi River, Downtown Memphis, and the South Main and South Bluff Historic Districts makes it an attractive development area. Amenities for South End residents include nearby shops, art galleries, and eateries in the South Main Arts District; extremely short commutes to the Downtown Core and the Medical District; and, the beauty of the Mississippi River, which can be enjoyed on the 4.8-mile River Walk. The River Walk starts at Martyrs park and extends to Harbor Town. South End Extended Businesses WREG Channel 3 has had its headquarters at 803 Channel 3 Drive since 975 and has been a broadcaster for the Memphis and Mid-South area since 955. More than 40 employees work at WREG. The US Post Office located at 555 S Third serves multiple functions as the city’s primary South End Extended Area Profile sorting facility, a vehicle maintenance facility, a postal police station, and a full service post office.
